The BMW X2 M35i is one of those cars that makes considerably more sense once you drive it. BMW took the compact, practical footprint of the X2 and essentially gave it the hot-hatch treatment: more power, more aggressive suspension tuning, stronger brakes, an M Sport differential, xDrive all-wheel drive and a cabin that feels much more special than the typical small crossover. The result is a genuinely quick, enthusiast-oriented little SUV that still works perfectly as an everyday driver.
Under the hood is BMW’s 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder producing 301 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque, paired with an 8-speed Sport Automatic transmission and BMW’s full-time xDrive AWD system. BMW also equipped the M35i with an electro-mechanical M Sport limited-slip differential at the front axle, specifically designed to reduce wheelspin and improve traction when accelerating hard out of corners. The chassis receives M-specific suspension tuning, upgraded braking hardware, front and rear anti-roll bars, speed-sensitive steering and a more aggressive calibration throughout.
And despite being a compact crossover, this thing moves. Car and Driver recorded 0–60 mph in approximately 4.6 seconds, putting it firmly into legitimate performance-car territory rather than simply being an appearance-package SUV. That combination of a short wheelbase, strong low-end turbo torque and all-wheel-drive traction gives the M35i the personality of a modern European hot hatch with a little more ground clearance and practicality.
BMW engineered the X2 M35i to be noticeably different from the standard X2. The M Performance treatment includes the upgrated engine, M-specific 8-speed automatic calibration, M Sport Differential, performance-oriented suspension tuning and upgraded brakes. BMW specifically described the front differential as a technical highlight of the M35i, helping the car put power down during aggressive cornering rather than simply spinning the inside front tire.
Where this particular X2 really stands apart, though, is the interior.
The Alpine White exterior is paired with a striking Sakhir Orange interior, and it completely changes the personality of the car. Instead of the predictable black-on-black specification found in so many German crossovers, this one immediately feels like an M Performance BMW when you open the door. The deeply bolstered sport bucket-style front seats, contrasting orange upholstery, M steering wheel and driver-focused cockpit give the cabin a legitimately special feel.
The front sport seats offer extensive power adjustment, lumbar support, adjustable thigh support and driver memory, allowing you to sit much lower and more securely than you would expect in a compact SUV. The seating position combined with the thick BMW steering wheel and compact dimensions gives the X2 a very connected, cockpit-like feel from behind the wheel.
This example is also equipped with Harman Kardon premium audio, ambient interior lighting, panoramic glass sunroof, navigation, Apple CarPlay compatibility, Bluetooth streaming, dual-zone automatic climate control, power folding mirrors, driver memory, parking sensors, backup camera, keyless start and a power rear liftgate.
The Harman Kardon system is especially worthwhile in this cabin. Between the premium audio, ambient illumination and the bright Sakhir Orange interior, the X2 feels far more upscale at night than its compact dimensions would suggest. Open the panoramic roof and the interior feels considerably larger and airier as well.
BMW also did not sacrifice practicality to make the M35i fun. The X2 measures only about 172 inches long, making it easy to maneuver and park, yet it offers approximately 21.6 cubic feet of cargo room behind the rear seats and as much as 50.1 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. Rear passengers get a 40/20/40 split-folding seat, and the power liftgate makes the car genuinely usable as a daily driver, road-trip vehicle or small family SUV.
The exterior carries the same M Performance attitude. You get the more aggressive front fascia, black kidney grilles, aerodynamic rear spoiler, large lower air openings, dual exhaust outlets and a lower, wider visual stance than the typical compact crossover. This particular car also wears the retro-style BMW Motorsport heritage roundels, inspired by the original BMW Motorsport emblem and the colors associated with BMW M’s racing history.
BMW originally revived that historic roundel to celebrate the 50th anniversary of BMW M and gives this M35i perfectly and give the car another subtle enthusiast touch.
This X2 has also had the kind of ownership history we like to see. It is a 2 OWNER vehicle with a clean title, and it was originally sold and serviced through Chapman BMW, with documented BMW dealer service history. It currently shows approximately 91k miles and presents extremely well inside and out.
For the enthusiast who needs one car to do everything, the X2 M35i occupies a pretty unique spot. It is small enough to feel playful, quick enough to embarrass plenty of traditional sports sedans, AWD for everyday usability, practical enough to actually carry people and cargo, and considerably more interesting than another anonymous compact crossover.

It looks aggressive, the interior is spectacular, and once the turbo comes on boost, it drives like a BMW M Performance car should.
